Similar Web, the digital traffic monitor, has ranked Guru’Guay the top website dedicated to travel and living in Uruguay in 2023.

The websites compared¹ were:

Guru’Guay received 51.95% of the total traffic to all five sites.

This is up from 40% in March 2022—when Guru’Guay was also #1 site—and the last Similarweb comparison of Uruguay’s top travel sites.

This is especially notable as Guru’Guay is the only independent website of the five. All the others are government entities. It is very exciting that a locally-produced independent website has been able to bring such visibility and business for Uruguay.

Guru’Guay is also the only site which is written in English and then translated into multiple languages.

Traffic to Uruguay Natural was 26% and Uruguay XXI was 16% and the other websites under 5% each.

In the top half 1 million websites in the world

Similarweb has been around for over a decade mapping digital traffic on the Internet. According to statistics, there are 192 million websites active in the world in 2024.

Similarweb ranked Guru’Guay in the top 500,000 websites in the world—number # 434,134.

This is up from # 864,471 in March 2022 and the last Similarweb comparison of Uruguay’s top travel sites.

10 years writing about Uruguay

Guru’Guay was founded 10 years ago by a British author living in Montevideo since the year 2000. The site was originally produced to provide travel information in English. In 2018, after many reader requests, the site began providing information for people and businesses interested in relocating. For the last two years, the site includes selected investment opportunities. All content is carefully curated. Guru’Guay won’t publish any old thing. We have to be convinced it is quality and accurate.

Guru’Guay has been recommended in the New York Times, the BBC, The Guardian, National Geographic Traveler and other top media outlets. Mentions are collected on the Guru’Guay in the media page.
