Searching for outstanding restaurants in Punta del Diablo? Cardamomo serves local seasonal dishes, fresh seafood and handmade pasta beneath native trees, with tables set outdoors on the sand.

This rustic Punta del Diablo restaurant is a family project in every sense. Carolina welcomes you into her home and runs her kitchen with a clear focus on local produce and seasonal and quality ingredients. Many of the dishes are her own family’s favourites and served on crockery made by her mother.

What started as a home kitchen remains just that. The scale is small and the atmosphere informal. Most of the restaurant operates outdoors, in a garden surrounded by native trees, where tables are set directly on the sand. It’s simple with natural handmade details throughout.

The menu offers different cuts of meat, fresh fish and seafood, risottos, salads, sandwiches and homemade pasta made daily with organic flour. Vegetables and herbs come from the restaurant’s own garden. The kitchen uses only ghee or extra virgin olive oil. And all sauces, seasonings and the bread are prepared on site.

The wine list includes only Uruguayan wines, representing a variety of national wineries across different price points. You will also find local craft beers and a selection of house cocktails and signature drinks, among which the colourful “Cardamomo” stands out.

What you should know

Slow food

All meals are made from scratch. This is not fast food—preparing meals takes time. So don’t come starving hungry. Expect a relaxed pace and some waiting, especially during busy hours.

Mostly outdoor seating

Most tables are outdoors, set directly on the sand. The open-air setting is the main attraction, so bring a wrap or sweater for the evenings. There is also a small indoor space with a few tables if you prefer to sit inside.

Reservations recommended

The restaurant is open all year. During high season it serves lunch and dinner, and in low season it opens nightly for dinner and serves lunch only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Tables fill quickly, so booking ahead is advised.

Languages spoken

The staff speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese, and a digital menu is also available in additional languages. The team is knowledgeable about the dishes and can explain ingredients and preparation in detail.

Cash and cards accepted

They accept payments by debit card, cash (Uruguayan pesos or foreign currency), bank transfer, and Mercado Pago. Credit card payments will be available from Spring 2026.

Cats on site

Three resident cats roam freely among the tables. They are quiet and unobtrusive, but take note if you have allergies.
