Lucas-Calcraft insurance brokers has been in the business of providing insurance to English-speakers in Uruguay for almost 150 years. They registered in 1876 as an agent of Queen Insurance in the UK. Their clients were British business people looking for a trustworthy insurance broker to cover their business in the Rio de La Plata area. A century later, Alejandro Sosa joined the family company in 1978.

Alejandro’s paternal grandparents were all British emigrées to Uruguay. So Alejandro, his son Alejo (that’s a shortened form of Alejandro, pronounced Ah-LEH-ho) and his trusty assistant Susan McConnell (yes! Her grandfather was Scottish) are here to serve you in perfect English.

• All types of insurance coverage available in the northern hemisphere are available in Uruguay. If there is a type of coverage that is unavailable, Alejandro tells us it’s because it is not considered a risk here in Uruguay.
• You may be surprised at how affordable insurance is. US clients say that in general the insurance costs in Uruguay are much lower than they are used to. • Travel insurance for Uruguay Alejandro‘s clients who move here usually take out a three month travel insurance. You’ll have emergency coverage for healthcare and belongings and 90 days to check out long-term healthcare options at a leisurely pace.
• Uruguay health insurance As Alejandro mentioned in the video, you have to personally enroll so it is not something that he can set up for you. However, Lucas-Calcraft keeps an up-to-date list of healthcare providers and their contacts. They are happy to advise their clients and recommend you visit several before making a decision.
