DESCRIPTION

Discover inland La Barra, home to some of Uruguay’s most sophisticated country tourist-spots, and a short ride from Punta del Este

La Barra is a shabby-chic beach town of brightly coloured one-storey houses, galleries and bars 6 miles from downtown Punta del Este.

On this tour you’ll ride over the famous Wavy Bridge into La Barra. Chilean poet Pablo Neruda dedicated a poem to its curves. Your destination on the tour is the Hotel Fasano, named Best Hotel in Latin America by one of the world’s largest travel magazines. On the way, you can make a pit-stop at boutique wine lodge Narbona. It’s a gorgeous place to stop off for some wine and to sample their hams and cheeses, or just enjoy a look around. Leaving the lodge, the riding will be a gentle slope uphill (think, great free-wheeling back down) to Hotel Fasano. Depending the time of the year, visiting the premises needs to be coordinated. On your way back, off-season, or if the streets are not busy, you can check out the town of La Barra.

FAQ

Where does the tour leave from? Your guide will be waiting for you at a pre-arranged meeting point in La Barra or Punta del Este.

How long does the tour take? If you are based in Punta del Este you can choose the regular four-hour tour, or a longer six-hour tour. On the six-hour tour you meet your guide in Punta del Este and together you cycle along the ocean-front promenade and over the famous Wavy Bridge into La Barra. Transport is also available from Punta del Este (the total tour time is then four hours).

How strenuous is the tour? This ride goes for fifteen miles (25 km) and last 4 hours. Punta del Este is flat for the most part. There is an uphill section in this tour. The six-hour tour is obviously more demanding.
